On a cold winter day, a dog named Sparky woke up to the sound of his alarm clock. He was excited, because it was his birthday. He had been looking forward to this day for weeks. He had even asked his owner, a little girl named Lily, if he could have a party. Lily had said yes, but then she had to go away on a trip with her family.Sparky was disappointed, but he decided to have a party anyway. He went to the kitchen and made himself a big bowl of breakfast. Then, he went outside and played in the park. He had a lot of fun, but he couldn’t help but feel a little bit lonely.
Later that day, Lily came home from her trip. She was so happy to see Sparky. She gave him a big hug and told him how much she loved him. Sparky was so happy to see her. He wagged his tail so hard that his whole body wiggled.
Lily asked Sparky if he had had a good day. Sparky told her that he had had a great day, but that he had also been a little bit lonely. Lily apologized for not being able to be there for his party. She told Sparky that she would make it up to him.
The next day, Lily took Sparky to the park. She brought him a new ball to play with and a big cake to eat. Sparky had so much fun. He played fetch with Lily and ate the whole cake.
Sparky was so happy to have Lily back. He knew that she loved him, even though she had to go away sometimes. He was also happy that he had gotten to have a birthday party, even if it was just with Lily.
